NY LLC Publication by County

Your publication county is determined by the county designation in your Articles of Organization—the document you filed to form your LLC with the NY Department of State. Look for the county field on your formation documents. This is NOT necessarily where you live or operate; it's a filing designation you chose (or your formation service chose) when creating the LLC.

No, you must publish in the county designated in your Articles of Organization. However, you CAN change your county designation by filing a Certificate of Change (DOS-1359-f) with NY DOS before publishing. This is called "County Change" and can save you hundreds of dollars if you're in an expensive county like Manhattan or Brooklyn. We offer this as a service.

NYC borough newspapers (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island) charge premium rates for legal notices—often 2-3x more than upstate papers.
